Des's sculptures bring a lot
of joy to many who are able to
view and interact with them

The sculptures... “are so
welcoming and friendly that
children (and their parents) are drawn to hug and explore them
by touching them, climbing on
them and even talking to them.”

Ingrid Tadich - (formerly) Manager
Children’s Museum Melbourne.

Des McKenna O.A.M – Woodcarver & Sculptor
31 July 1930 – 26 December 2016

Des was a gifted sculptor and devoted family man who worked tirelessly in his community. He brought joy to many who saw and experienced his beautiful work. He is sadly missed. Since 1986 he produced numerous sculptural pieces ranging from major public commissions located in China, Japan, the Melbourne Museum, Melbourne City Square and Koorie Heritage Cultural Centre to beautiful gift size pieces that many have purchased and cherished.
