Echidna
Carved as an entry to the University of Western Sydney Acquisitive Sculptural Award and Exhibition the echidna was accepted as a finalist (one of 20 selected from 55 Australia-wide entries) in this prestigious event where it received many favorable comments and featured well in the “Peoples Choice Award”
On its return to Melbourne it was loaned to the Melbourne Museum where it is currently
giving joy to many children and adults in the children’s playground area.
The echidna is “waddling” and is a “must touch” for anyone seeing it.
The echidna is carved from a River Red Gum log 1.55 metres long and is 0.75 metres wide. The eyes are glass.
Its “quills” are painted with gold paint and outlined with inset of black epoxy resin.
